Monday February 01, 2010 HENDRICKSON, HILL, KORMANN AND CONAWAY HONORED AS 2009 CHAMPIONS AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAYS ANNUAL BANQUET BRIDGEPORT, NJ (January 31, 2010) - The final chapter in the 2009 season at Bridgeport Speedway occurred on Saturday, January 30th with the annual awards banquet at the Dover Downs Hotel and Casino. Despite the snowy weather, a good crowd was on hand to see accolades presented to the top finishers in each class as well as numerous specialty awards during the nights activities. The points fund of nearly $50,000 was doled out by Bridgeport Speedway management.
The top honoree of the night was Wade Hendrickson from Lawrenceville, NJ. The 2009 Big Block Modified champion was handed a check for $10,527 for winning his second career title at Bridgeport Speedway. Chad James wound up in second place in the final point chase while Ryan Watt finished in third. Jimmy Horton and young Matt Harrell filled out the top five. Scott Irwin, Jimmy Chester, Mike Barone, Mike Franz and Ron Roberts completed the top ten in points.
For the second year in a row, Jesse Hill from Barnsboro, NJ was officially crowned the champion in the 358 Sportsman division. Second spot in the final 2009 point standings was Brett Ballard with Jarrad Miller in third place. 358 Sportsman rookie Travis Hill finished in fourth with Chuck Hopkins taking fifth in the final standings. Rounding out the top ten in points in 2009 were Ron Roberts, Sean Gunther, Frank Dorry, Jr., Jack Swain and Dan Cogdill.
Eric Kormann from Vineland, NJ received his second career championship in the GM Sportsman division. Finishing only nine points behind Kormann in second place was Neal Williams. Bob Burgess wound up in third with Tom Moore Jr. in fourth and Michael Cogdill in fifth. Kyle Borror, Corey Anderson, rookie Billy Martino, Chuck Buchman and David Bell completed the second half of the top ten.
The 2009 Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock title was given to Pat Conaway from Williamstown, NJ. Jeremy Doerr took the runner up spot with Terry Griffin taking third place honors. Dean Woolford and Bob Hopely filled out the top five finishers.
Collegiate Living.com, Hampton Inn, Hoffman Brothers Speed & Performance, LIAS Tire, MSP Equipment Rental, Proformance Cuts, RMP Powertrain Solutions, Stewart Stainless Supply, and Sunoco received Sponsor Awards for their involvement during the 2009 season. Veteran car owners Billy Chester and Frank Franz were honored for their longtime support of Bridgeport Speedway.
Also, Bridgeport Speedway management announced that 2010 opening night for the 5/8th dirt oval will be on Saturday, April 10th. Practice day for the 5/8th mile speedway will be on Saturday, March 27th. Micro-Sprints and 4-Cylinder Stock Cars will have practice on the 1/4 mile speedway on Sunday, March 28th with the season opener on the inner oval set to take place on Friday, April 2nd. Georgetown Speedway will host its first show in 2010 on Saturday, April 3rd.
