HARRELL NABS FIRST CAREER BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (May 2, 2010) - On EMS/Fire Department Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Matt Harrell won his first career Big Block Modified feature. In the Crate Modified event, Travis Hill was the victor. Chuck Palmucci took the checkered flag in the Tri-State Racesaver Sprint race. Kyle Newcomb prevailed in the Rookie race.

The original start of the 25-lap Big Block Modified feature was curtailed as Wade Hendrickson spun coming out of turn two. With a clean start, Jimmy Chester rocketed out to the early lead with Bob Sarkisian and Mike Franz in tow. Ron Roberts brought out the second and final caution flag of the event when he stopped in turn three after one lap had been completed. As action got back underway, Chic Cossaboone began to make his presence known as he worked his way by Franz and Sarkisian to gain second place. A little further back, Matt Harrell sliced his way up to fourth after starting the race in seventh. Harrell scooted by Sarkisian on the fifth circuit for third place and began to move in on the top two of Chester and Cossaboone. Just as Harrell got by Cossaboone for the runner up spot on lap 6, the fourth place running Sarkisian dropped out of the race. With Richie Pratt, Jr. now taking over fourth, Hendrickson had rebounded from his early mishap and was up to fifth. The top two of Chester and Harrell waged a multi-lap battle for the lead until Harrell emerged on top on lap 8 following a terrific outside pass. As the leader of the pack, Harrell slowly began to pull away from the field as the laps began to click off. A little further back, Hendrickson continued his assault to the front by passing Pratt, Jr. and Cossaboone to secure third place by lap 11. At the halfway point, Harrell was in lap traffic but had pulled out to half a straightaway lead over Chester, Hendrickson, Pratt, Jr. and Ryan Watt. Watt worked his way by Pratt, Jr. on lap 16. After several laps of racing hard for the second spot, Hendrickson took over second on lap 19 and began to set his sights on Harrell. Watt sent Chester back another spot two laps later. Over the final few laps, Harrell never allowed Hendrickson to get close to him and successfully navigated through the lap traffic to nab his first career Big Block Modified feature victory. Hendrickson finished second. With Watt losing three spots on the final lap, third place went to Chester with Pratt, Jr. taking fourth and Cossaboone gaining fifth. Chester, Rich Acolia and Cossaboone were the winners in the heat races for the Big Block Modifieds.

After winning last week’s 20-Lap Crate Modified race, Travis Hill returned to victory lane again to collect his twelfth career win at Bridgeport Speedway. Hill started the feature in eleventh and grabbed the lead on lap 6 from Ron Roberts. Roberts held on for second and Larry Lippincott finished third. Neal Williams and Frank Dorry, Jr. completed the top five finishers. Qualifying events were won by Roberts, Gino Postorivo and Mike Cogdill.

In the Tri-State Racesaver Sprint feature, Chuck Palmucci overtook Craig Rochelle on lap 14 for the leadand survived a final lap restart to gain the victory. For Rochelle, the night did not end well as his sprint car tumbled out of the speedway on lap 19. Second place was claimed by Jeff Geiges with John Wyers getting third. The top five finishers were rounded out by Jeff Mueller and Stefanie Palmai. Geiges and Wyers were victors in the heat races.

Kyle Newcomb led all six laps to win the Rookie race. Matt Budd, Troy Burger and Frank Raio followed Newcomb in order at the finish line.
