Sunday May 06, 2012 ERIC KORMANN SNAGS HIS FIRST BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY
Swedesboro, NJ (May 6, 2012) – On Nostalgia Night at Bridgeport Speedway, Eric Kormann snagged his first career Big Block Modified win. Tommy Beamer was victorious in the Crate Sportsmen main event. In the Outlaw Stock Car feature, Terry Griffin won the postponed contest from April 21 and the regularly scheduled race.
At the start of the 30-lap feature for the Big Block Modifieds, Jack Swain scurried to the front of the pack with Stan Frankenfield and Ryan Watt in pursuit. Following a caution period on lap one for a spin by Corey Anderson, Watt blasted to the front with Swain in second. Scott Ambruster moved into the picture by motoring into third with three circuits completed. On lap 9, Watt was about to encounter slower traffic when the yellow lights flickered for a slowing Frankenfield. When action got back underway, Watt kept his front running spot with Ambruster slipping into second and Eric Kormann charging into third. Behind the top three, Jimmy Horton was continuing his march to the front by gaining fourth with eleven revolutions in the books. At the midway point, Watt was still on top with Ambruster in striking distance. Behind the top two, Kormann and Horton were in tight quarters fighting for third place. Horton won the entertaining multi-lap tussle for the position on the eighteenth tour. As the leaders were in the midst of lap traffic, the caution flag waved on lap 21 for a slowing Rick Laubach. When action got back underway, Kormann swept by Horton and Watt to gain the lead. Just after the change at the top, Matt Harrell’s flat tire on lap 22 caused the final caution period. On the restart, Kormann maintained his lead over Watt and Horton. With five laps left in the contest, Watt was nearing Kormann in an attempt to regain the lead. Kormann was able to hold onto the front running position in the remaining laps to claim his first career Big Block Modified feature win. Watt held on for second with Horton taking home third. Fourth went to Richie Pratt, Jr. and Mike Barone finished in fifth. Jack Swain, Ryan Watt, and Scott Ambruster were the victors in the Big Block Modified qualifying races. Joe Masaido won the consolation event.
Following in the steps of Wade Hendrickson and a few other racers, Tommy Beamer used the extreme high groove of the speedway to win the 20-lap main event for the Crate Sportsmen. Rookie Brett Kelly paced the contest for the opening lap before Brett Kressley took over on the second circuit. Beamer, who started the race in ninth place, gained the victory by sweeping past Kressley for the lead with two circuits left in the contest. With Kressley taking second, Ryan Anderson wound up in third. Matt Budd and Ken Eckert rounded out the top five. The Crate Sportsmen heats were taken by Ryan Anderson and Brad Roberts.
In the Outlaw Stock Car division, Terry Griffin took the postponed feature along with the regularly scheduled race. In the postponed 15-lap contest from April 21, Griffin took over the top spot from Jeff Dirkes with six tours completed for the victory. Second place went to Dirkes. Rick Broschard, Jim Hughes, and Bob Hopely filled out the top five. In the regularly scheduled 15-lap main event, Griffin hopped to the front at the start and survived a late race resumption for his second checkered flag of the evening. Dirkes finished second again with Jeremy Doerr driving a strong race to wind up in third. Billy Wroble and Bob Hopely completed the top five.
