Tuesday September 08, 2009 HENDRICKSON AND JAMES GRAB WINS AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 5, 2009) - On Back to School Night
presented by RMP Powertrain Solutions, Wade Hendrickson and Chad James
each won a 20-Lap Big Block feature on Twin 20's Night. Jack Swain was
victorious in the 358 Sportsman event while Neal Williams was first in
the GM Sportsman contest. In the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car
features, PJ Oliver and Jeremy Doerr were the winners.
In the first 20-lap feature for the Big Block Modifieds, Ron Roberts
took the lead with Jimmy Wyers, Scott Irwin and Matt Harrell in
pursuit. The first yellow flag waved on lap 1 of the caution plagued
event as Bob Sarkisian's machine experienced a failure on the front
stretch. When action got back underway, Roberts maintained his lead
over Wyers as Harrell moved up one spot. On lap 5, a multi-car mishap
brought the field back together. On the ensuing restart, Wyers shot by
Roberts to become the new man on the point. Behind Wyers, Chad James
motored into second place and began to apply pressure. After several
cautions and restarts on lap 7, James finally succeeded in taking the
lead on lap 8 with Harrell and Wade Hendrickson in the hunt. On lap
10, Harrell developed a flat tire to slow down the racing. When the
green flag waved again, Hendrickson powered by James to gain the top
spot. During the second half of the event, Hendrickson survived
several more cautions and restarts to gain his fourth checkered flag
of the year. James held on for second place while 2008 Champion Mike
Iles came home in third place. Jimmy Horton was fourth and Chic
Cossaboone finished in fifth place.
With the top ten finishers in the first event inverted for the second
20-lap feature, Jason Andrews scooted out to an early lead but several
cars were eliminated in a lap 1 tangle in turn one. On the restart,
Andrews lost the lead to Ron Roberts with Chad James getting by
Andrews as well. Roberts only kept the lead for one lap as James
slipped by him for the lead just as a flat tire slowed down Mike
Barone. James kept the lead on the restart with Jimmy Horton climbing
up to the second position. The final caution of the second event came
on lap 9 as Jimmy Horton, IV stopped in turn two. James fought back
the challenge of Horton on the restart and led the rest of the way for
his fifth feature win at Bridgeport in 2009. Horton finished next with
Mike Iles taking third. Fourth place went to Roberts with Ryan Watt
coming home in fifth. The Big Block Modified heat winners were
Roberts, Wyers and James.
In the 358 Sportsman race, Jack Swain led from start to finish to capture the 20-lap affair. Swain started on the pole and fought back challenges from several contenders to win his second race of the year. In his career at Bridgeport, Swain now has eight victories. Jesse Hill got past Brett Ballard on lap 19 to gain second place. With Ballard in third, Travis Hill and Jarrad Miller completed the top five. Swain and Travis Hill were the victors in the
qualifying events for the 358 Sportsman.
Neal Williams won his fifth GM Sportsman feature of 2009. In the
15-lap race, Williams took the lead on lap 8 from Chuck Buchman and
scored a five second win over Eric Kormann. Third place went to Bob
Burgess. Filling out the top five finishers were Kyle Borror and
rookie Bob Bracall. Buchman and Kormann each won heat race in the GM
Sportsman division.
In the Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car feature, PJ Oliver overtook
Pat Conaway following a lap 10 restart and snared his first win ever
at Bridgeport Speedway in only his second appearance. Conaway was
second with teammate Nick Gargiulo crossing the finish line in third.
Jeremy Doerr and Dean Woolford rounded out the top five.
The Proformance Cuts Outlaw Stock Car feature from August 8th was
completed as well and Jeremy Doerr led from wire-to-wire for his
second win of the season. Spider Ensinger, Jr. took home a second
place finish with third going to Bob Hopely. Completing the top five
were Jay Chaikin and Jim Honeker.
