The 60 Over Special - A tribute to Doug Hoffman

The 42nd season opening event at Bridgeport Speedway is set for Saturday, March 30. The “60 Over Special”, featuring a 60-lap Race of Champions contest for the Big Block Modifieds, headlines the card. This special race paying tribute to Doug Hoffman, the late promoter of the track, can award the winner a cash prize of $6,060.60 with a $60 gambler’s fee via the “60 Over Challenge”. Brett Hearn, Billy Decker, Bobby Varin, JR Heffner, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Pauch, Duane Howard and Ryan Godown are just a few of the expected invaders. Bridgeport Speedway regulars like Jimmy Horton, Rick Laubach, Richie Pratt, Jr., Ryan Watt, Mike Barone, Eric Kormann, and Jesse Hill are looking forward to the challenge of fending off the stiff competition. In addition, two other classes will be in action. The new Crate/Sportsman division is set to partake in the opening hand of their Poker Series with a 30-lap feature. The first race of the new Shoot-Out Series for the Outlaw Stock Cars will round out the card with the “Bill Reynolds Memorial 20” in memory of the former novelty stand owner at Bridgeport Speedway. For this special opening day event, several additional activities are scheduled to take place. Katie Todorow, Miss Motorsports 2013, will be on hand. An Easter Egg Hunt will occur in the quarter mile pit area near the main grandstand entrance. A balloon launch is slated to be held before the first qualifying race takes place. Introduced last season and very popular with fans, the Big Block Modifieds will be staged on the midway behind the spectator stands. After being on display throughout the day, a restored “60 Over” 1986 Olsen Modified formerly driven by Doug Hoffman will pace the feature line-up. Just before the 60-lap race begins, the missing man formation will take shape on the 5/8th mile. Joette Hoffman, Doug’s daughter, will wave the green flag to get the contest, the first event of the 2013 Big Block Modified Poker Series, underway. All fans and crew members are encouraged to stand on the opening circuit and final tour of the race. Numerous new novelty items will be on sale during the day including a Doug Hoffman photo collage and memorial sticker. 2013 Poker Series shirts and hoodies can be purchased as well. Jason Leffler Tribute Race

Bridgeport, NJ (July 20, 2013) – After a careful thought process, Bridgeport Speedway, along with Heffner Racing Enterprises, is planning a tribute event in honor of Jason Leffler. All proceeds from a fan donation will benefit Leffler’s son, Charlie. The Jason Leffler Tribute race is set for Sunday, September 8 at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of an admission fee, fans will be admitted with their donation to a fund benefitting Charlie Dean Leffler. “I have spoken to most of the 410 Sprint Car drivers that attended the June 12 show and they are in favor of returning to Bridgeport Speedway for this tribute event. All of the money collected at the grandstand gates will be sent to the trust fund that has been created for Charlie. We are hoping each fan can donate at least $13 as a tribute to Jason,” stated co-promoter Mike Heffner. In addition, this very special race is made possible by the fans and their support from the postponed Night of Wings 2013 show. Spectators with wristbands from the June 12 program will be honored as VIPs for this event. Preferred seating will be established in the grandstand area and the gates will open one hour earlier for these fans. Additional special plans for our VIPs and other activities benefitting the trust fund for Charlie Dean Leffler are in the works including raffles for racing related items. The Jason Leffler Tribute race will showcase the 410 Sprints Cars and the TSRS Sprint Cars. The victor of the 25-lap main event for the 410 Sprint Cars will leave Southern New Jersey with $7,000. The take the green money has been set at $500 and non- qualifiers will receive $100. In addition, a $1,100 bonus for the top finishing 360 Sprint Car has been established for the program. The same format employed on June 12 will be used on September 8. During registration, each 410 Sprint Car driver will draw a pill to determine his or her heat race group. Each grouping will go out for time trials and an inversion of the top four (4) will set the starting lineup of each respective heat race. Drivers not in the top four (4) of their groups will be lined up in the qualifying events by time. The first two (2) finishers in each heat race are eligible for the feature redraw and the fastest qualifier in each grouping will be added as well providing the driver finishes the heat race in a qualifying position. All other heat race qualifiers will be assigned a starting position in the main event by time. On Sunday, September 8, the gates to the pit area open at 3:30 p.m. with the spectator turnstiles unlocking at 4:30 p.m. Wrist band holders from the June 12 show can enter the grandstand area at 3:30 p.m. Hot laps will start at 5:30 p.m. with action getting underway at 6:00 p.m. A monetary donation to benefit Charlie Dean, Jason’s son, will be necessary for grandstand admission. Pit wristbands from the June 12 program will be accepted. Otherwise, pit admission will be $35. If Port Royal should need this date as a raindate for their 46th annual Tuscarora 50, Bridgeport Speedway will postpone the Jason Leffler Tribute race and it will be held on Monday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m.
