Saturday September 17, 2011 NARDELLI NETS 2011 600CC MICRO-SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER WINNING THE FEATURE
BRIDGEPORT, NJ (September 17, 2011) - Lee Nardelli netted the 2011 600cc Micro-Sprint championship after winning the final point race of the season. RJ Magyari scored the victory in the 270cc Micro-Sprint feature as Richie Keller was crowned the point champion. The 4-Cylinder Stock Car main event and season championship went to Warren Stradley. Lou Cicconi took the checkered flag in the open Modified contest.
After becoming the leader on lap 14, Lee Nardelli set the pace for the remaining distance to score his first 600cc Micro-Sprint feature of the year. At the start of the 20-lap affair, Richie Keller jumped out to the front with Jermain Godshall in close pursuit. Coming from the tenth starting position, Nardelli had motored into third by lap 6. By the halfway point, Godshall and Nardelli were racing side-by-side in their pursuit of the front running Keller. On lap 12, Godshall had inched away from Nardelli and was tracking down Keller. One lap later with Keller still in front, Godshall clipped the leader and sent him spinning. Due to the contact, Godshall was sent to the rear of the field and Nardelli was the new man in front of the pack. Once on top, Nardelli survived three restarts in the final laps to secure the win. Driving Eric Brobst’s car, Bill Thomas finished in second. Jim Tippin wound up in third place with Rick Stief in fourth place and Tom Fraschetta in fifth place. The qualifying events were won by Stephen Kemery, Richie Keller and Chris Locuson. Nardelli narrowly won the season point championship over Bob DeVault.
RJ Magyari led wire-to-wire to win his first ever 20-lap 270cc Micro-Sprint main event. Second place went to Charlie Lamanna. John Blanda, Richie Keller and Randy West rounded out the top five. Justin Stillwagon and Jonathan John each picked up a heat race victory in the 270cc Micro-Sprint division. Keller’s fourth place finish helped him clinch the 270cc Micro-Sprint title for the year.
For the twelfth time this season, Warren Stradley was the victor in the 4-Cylinder Stock Car feature. With the win in the 25-lap race, Stradley wrapped up his sixth championship in the division. Justin Dunn completed the race in second. Kate Raively, Art Knapp and Scott Dunn completed the top five.
In the 25-lap open Modified race on the quarter mile speedway, Lou Cicconi, driving a Mike Iles owned small block Modified, led every step of the way to claim the checkered flag. Brett Ballard worked his way back from an opening lap spin to finish in second place. Neal Williams held off Jesse Hill in a photo finish for third place. Fifth place was taken by Ron Roberts. Cicconi and Richie Pratt, Jr. were the heat race victors.
